About Me
About Takayo Wakayama
I am a mother of two and have been living in the United States for over 28 years. I am a Japanese-English bilingual Certified Birth Doula, CD(DONA), and I have provided community-based lactation support since 2010.
For more than 20 years, I have supported mothers, babies, and families in both the United States and Japan. I am especially passionate about supporting Asian communities and honoring each family’s culture, values, traditions, and individual wishes surrounding pregnancy, birth, and postpartum care.
I believe every birth is unique.
Birth can be a deeply healing and transformative journey—not only for the birthing person, but also for their family and everyone who supports them.
I have a deep respect for physiological birth and for the natural wisdom of the human body. I also value the relationship between a mother and her baby beginning during pregnancy.
Through rhythmic breathing, movement, connection with your baby, and trust in yourself, I believe you can develop a deeper sense of confidence and awareness as you prepare for birth.
Most importantly, my role is not to decide what your birth should look like.
My role is to listen to you, respect your choices, share information and resources, and support you in creating a birth experience that feels right for you and your family.
I also love learning about different cultures and traditions. Your culture, your values, and your family story are important parts of the care I provide.
Community Support
Community has always been an important part of my work.
For approximately 15 years, I have advocated for and supported Japanese families and the Japanese community.
I have also been involved with a local breastfeeding support group for approximately 14 years, supporting families through breastfeeding and the early postpartum period.
Through these experiences, I have learned that families need more than information. They need someone who will listen, respect their experiences, and help them feel supported without judgment.
